About

I am fascinated by all things that allow creative freedom.

I am currently doing my fourth year as a BA in Fine Arts student at UCT, majoring in New Media . I believe I am a self-taught 3D Artist, Photographer, Painter and Graphic Designer. I also took basic piano classes and produced some music at one stage.

Like any young child I began drawing at an early age, my parents bought watercolour paints and taught me how to make potato prints. It was around this time my parents bought their first computer as well. I would use the computer for drawing, using Microsoft Paint. I kept drawing through my primary school years and my digital work evolved as well. In my late primary school years I began using Microsoft Word to create 3D models (Yes, Microsoft word). At this point I made extensive use of its drawing tools and using the basic shapes, I would turn them into 3D and overlay them on top of each other to create objects. This quickly felt very limiting, but luckily in 2005, I came across a PC magazine with software on a CD. I never had access to the internet at this time so I used to buy these magazines just to play with new software. On the disk was a 3D animation package called Anim8tor. I committed every day to learning this software from the ground up by playing around and struggling to do things on my own as I could not just do a quick internet search. The time came when I felt that the software was limiting as well, I then came across Blender and it was the same process all over again. Luckily I had a friend this time and we struggled together and the process moved along much faster. I’ve always been interested in photography as well, specifically retouching and photo manipulation. This is when my father bought me a photo editing suite which was expensive, but way cheaper than the real Adobe Photoshop. I created many interesting things with this and it later helped me to understand Photoshop at an advanced level.

It wasn’t until 2007 I had access to a permanent internet connection. This opened so many doors for me in terms of reading online tutorials so I could learn the software and make things. 2007 was also the year I had my first formal training as an art student as I took up the Visual Art course in high school. Here I produced many traditional paintings with student acrylic paints and was the gateway to my tertiary education. I then went on to receive a small scholarship to study at UCT based on my high school portfolio work. Art, or more so digital art, has always been my main focus throughout my schooling career. One would always find me doodling in my classwork books or coming home and creating 3D models before I finish my homework.

It wasn’t until just recently that I bought my first DSLR camera. This has really improved my painting, drawing and especially digital renders as well as I quickly began to understand traditional lighting techniques and the technical side could easily be translated into the virtual world of 3D.

I would like to thank my friends as I’ve got some real valuable friends who has taught and helped me achieve a lot throughout the years, also to my parents to whom this may not be possible without, and most certainly God almighty.

The next step I think I want to take is to learn some cinematography and VFX techniques and apply everything I’ve learnt throughout my life into one epicly great and awesome award-winning Short film.
